The Story of Wearable Poetry
started in winter 2017 in Pantin, Paris. With exactly the hat that you can see on this picture. I had come here to work on a book about almost love stories. It was snowing outside and cosy inside. My black woollen hat was lying on the working table in front of me. I looked at it while thinking about my dreams.
Writing a book is a beautiful process. But it is also a lengthy one and, at the end of a day, you can’t really touch your work. I was missing this a lot. I looked at my black hat again. The next morning, I went to buy some wool. And at the end of this working day, “Big Dreams Inside“ was there—and touchable. It belongs now to a friend, who saw it in a moment when she needed to believe in her dreams again.
The 1st Wearable Poetry Edition PRELOVED
continued to grow after my return to Berlin. I started to use garments that I had stored in a memory-box. Some of them were related to the (almost) love story I was writing about. They were reminders of moments, both beautiful and painful. Over time, Wearable Poetry became interwoven with the work and story of the book—until it started to develop a story of its own.
The PRELOVED edition is embroidered on vintage pieces of some of my favorite brands. It was first presented as an exhibition at werk.//h&m in May 2019, Berlin.
Upcoming Wearable Poetry Editions
For the upcoming editions 2nd CHANCE and RETOUR, I work with overproductions and online shopping returns that are not sellable any more.
I’ll be applying parts of the PRELOVED designs on those garments, too and am constantly adding new designs. I present them on this site as well as per email. You can sign-up here.
Sustainability or: Re-Purposing Existing Garments
I am a writer who loves fashion, especially knitwear that is soft and makes me feel good and warm. Rather than producing new garments, I use existing ones and give them a new purpose—by telling feelings and moments upon them.
